Nerves are the 'electrical wires' that carry messages from the brain to the rest of the body. They allow us to feel touch, pressure, temperature and to move muscles. Damage to nerves can affect all of these functions.
Commonly injured nerves include those of the fingers, wrist, arms and legs and face. The repair of a nerve injury requires an operation using magnification. Very fine sutures (stitches) are used to repair the damaged nerve, with the aim of restoring function.
